Two little twins, Olly and Polly, were looking forward to Saturday. Their grandpa promised to take them on a trip to a shieling. The siblings had no idea what a shieling was, but they were dying to find out, because grandpa always took them only to amazing places full of wonders.

Olly and Polly didn’t like waking up early for kindergarten. However, this time their eyes were wide open long before the alarm, set by their mom, went off. When it rang its familiar piercing sound, they were both already risen and shining. They prepared their backpacks and eagerly waited for their grandpa to finally take them for another of his unforgettable trips. The waiting was soon over. They ran out, shut the door behind them, waved their parents goodbye, and set off for a great new adventure.

All the way to the shieling, they were asking grandpa millions of questions about different things. Grandpa patiently answered every single one and never stopped smiling. Just like always.

The trip didn’t take long, and soon, they reached their destination. The shepherd, grandpa’s good friend, was already waiting for them.

“Grandpa, is this the shieling?” asked Olly.

“Yes, it is. This is where the shepherds live in the mountains. This is their hut over here, and over there in the back it is the sheepfold. That’s where sheep stay at night,” grandpa explained.

At that moment, a small black dog jumped out in front of them to greet the guests. It was wagging its shaggy tail, eager for a good scratch behind its ears.

“This is Devil, but don’t worry, he’s great with kids,” said the shepherd.

Worry? The kids definitely weren’t worrying. They were already petting the dog that was happily jumping around them.
