It was the middle of a hot summer and the little tailor was hard at work in his workshop. He measured and cut fabric, and sewed it together. While he worked, his jam sandwich lay uneaten beside him, attracting a swarm of flies. The little tailor didn’t want to share his food with them, so he grumpily swatted them away with a cloth. Thwack! He brought down seven of them in one blow.
He revelled in his skill. “I’m so talented the world needs to know about it!” he thought. He picked up a piece of cloth, embroidered the words Seven in One Blow! onto it and tied it around his waist.
He wrapped some cheese in a cloth and tucked it into his pocket together with a little bird that he caught by the gate. Then he was ready to bid farewell to his workshop and set out into the world.
His legs were swift and he didn’t have much to carry, so he soon found himself at the top of a mountain. And would you believe it, right there at the summit sat a giant.
“Good day, my friend,” said the little tailor, “I’ve set out to see the world. Wouldn’t you like to join me?”
“A little dwarf like you calling me his friend?” snorted the giant. “Well now, first I shall test you out! Can you do this?” he asked. He picked up a huge rock, closed his hand around it and squeezed so hard that water dripped out.
The little tailor didn’t bat an eyelid. He reached into his pocket and took out the cheese, which looked like a stone. He wrapped his hand around it and squeezed it so hard that it started dripping whey.
