It was a cold day in October, early in the morning. All the houses in the street were quiet. Their four-legged inhabitants were sleeping soundly — that is, everyone except a little dog called Stella Polaris, who was already peeking out of her pen with great curiosity. Like every other day, she gazed at the white bands left in the sky left by all the planes passing by. Just now, a huge plane was retracting its landing gear and heading higher and higher. She barked loudly to awaken her neighbouring dog friends.
“Pepi, Spot, wake up!! Look at this giant plane! Where do you think it’s flying to? What must it be like to see the Earth from such a height? Oh how I wish I could experience that view” she whimpered wistfully.
But the other dogs didn’t share their friend's enthusiasm. Pepi was snuggled up in his warm bed. Before he fell back asleep, he growled, “I don't understand why you waste your time dreaming about such nonsense, Stella. Please let me sleep.”
Stella didn't pay any attention to her friend's grumpy whining. She mustn’t waste any more time. Before heading out to explore, she was hoping to be given something to eat. (Stella’s master did not take very good care of his dog. Sometimes he completely forgot to feed her, and even when she ran away, he never searched for her). But today was one of the better days, and Stella was given a few bones. She began to gnaw at them, but her mind was completely elsewhere.
