A Long time ago, when people still used to hunt with bows and arrows, a young hunter set out into the mountains to try his luck. As he was marching towards the majestic peaks of the far away mountains, he heard a familiar noise. When he looked up in the sky, he saw an eagle’s nest right at the top of the highest mountain. The eagle that lived there was hovering right above the nest, clenching a limp snake in her claws. The snake looked dead, and the eagle put it in the nest to feed the hungry baby that was waiting there and crying out for it. Then she took off and went hunting again. As soon as the eagle had left though, the snake came around and started attacking the eaglet.
The young hunter watched the whole show from the foot of the mountain. He quickly took his bow and arrows and shot the snake dead. Then he climbed up to the nest to make sure the eaglet was alright. When he found the baby safe and sound, he decided to take it home to look after it. That’s when the eagle returned. When she saw the stranger trying to steal her baby, she swooped down to attack him.
“How dare you steal my baby, you thief!” cried the fearless eagle.
“The snake was not dead. Your baby was in danger. If I hadn’t stepped in, the nestling would now be dead. I’m taking it home with me to look after it.”
The eagle’s eyes filled with tears. “Are you saying I’m a bad mother?” she cried. “No, I don’t think you’re a bad mother. I bet you are a good and caring mother, but you made a terrible mistake that could have cost…
