Once, long ago, people completely forgot that they should behave kindly to one another and do good. Instead, they all grew angry and unkind. So much so, that it seemed there was nearly no one good left on the Earth… except for Noah and his family.
Noah saw and experienced his fair share of gossip, jealousy and unfair behaviour, but he never repaid any of it with evil. He always tried to do the right thing and help people. And he taught his sons to do the same.
One day, Noah came home in a bad mood. All evening he had watched his friends behaving disrespectfully to their wives and listened to their hateful talk. He kept on pointing it out to them and reproaching them, but it didn’t help.
“The God we believe in teaches that we should do good and help one another. Don’t you know that anger doesn’t lead to any good?” he said, but as usual, no-one listened.
As he lay down in his bed, Noah wondered what more he could do. How was it even possible that there was so much evil in the world? When he eventually managed to fall asleep, he had a dream in which it seemed like God himself was talking to him. Noah saw what would happen to the people who did nothing but spread evil. He saw heavy rain. In his dream, it rained so hard and for so long that the rainwater covered the whole Earth. Noah was alarmed, but his dream also showed him how to survive the flood. He would need to build a very big boat, an ark, big enough to withstand such a huge flood.
When Noah woke up, he felt a bit daunted at the task ahead…
