The cold but sunny weekend was coming soon, so the whole family was looking forward to a trip to the cottage. Parents allowed the children to take one friend each with them so that they wouldnât be bored. Theo took his classmate Toby and Liz took her friend Tory. The four of them often played together, so they all knew each other well.
They had a long car journey to the mountains and through a dark forest. However, they told each other funny stories to entertain themselves. Recently, the children had had a carnival at school, so they talked about their masks. And, of course, everyone claimed that theirs was the scariest one. They joked happily as the journey passed slowly, and they arrived at the cottage just before dark.
âWow, this is magical!â the girl sighed as they looked at the wooden shutters.
âBut it looks a little spooky,â said Toby, shuddering when he noticed the silhouette of the roof in the twilight.
âJust like from the dark forest!â Theo joined at once with his vivid imagination.
âHaha, have you peed in your trousers yet?â laughed the girls.
But the boys immediately said: âYou think weâre scared? Well, rest assured that even if a monster comes out of the forest, we will protect you!â Theo puffed out his chest and pounded it with a clenched fist, making a thumping sound.
âYes, we will! Weâve got experience with that!â Toby joined in, âWhy do you think we watch superhero movies? Iâd kick the monsterâs bum!â
âCome inside, superheroes,â called their mother and father, laughing, âyou must be starving. If you donât eat, you wonât have enough energy to protect the girls.â
