Once upon a time, in the middle of a dark forest, there lived a witch whose name was Bobbie, and she was terribly bored. No children came to steal the gingerbread from her cottage any more, because nowadays all the children ate healthy food. No one got lost in the woods any more either, because all the forest paths were carefully marked with hiking signposts. And so Bobbie the witch sat at home, bored, for days on end, not knowing what to do.
Sometimes she talked to the deer, at night she exchanged a few words with the owls, and now and then she and the local badger cooked mushroom soup together. Sometimes she repeated her magic formulas and spells to herself, just so she wouldn't forget them, sometimes she flew around on her broomstick, but it was all very ordinary. There was nothing special going on in the forest.
Then, one day, that all changed. Somewhere over the hill in the distance, Bobbie heard the rumble of construction machinery. It rattled and rumbled for quite a long time. Bobbie and her forest-dwelling friends didn't dare go near the noise because they were afraid of the machinery. But when the work was finished, the deer, the witch, the owl, and the badger went over the brow of the hill straight away to see what had been going on.
And what they saw there, would you believe it, was a brand new road! A little straight bit here, a little curvy bit there, and all around the road, rows and rows of seats like in a cinema. Crowds of people were flocking to the road. Some were dressed in red, others in green, some were wearing caps with pictures of rings, others had bulls painted…
